Abstrakt: The article features the poet Jan Kochanowski, who is considered as the greatest poet of Poland during its time as independent kingdom. It says that Kochanowski, who is a learned poet of the Renaissance, draws inspiration from the Greek and Roman literatures and is renowned for his translation of the Psalms into his native language. It adds that his masterpiece, "Laments," which was written in the memory of his daughter Ursula, reflects the deepest personal emotion through literary style.
