Abstrakt: External resorptions associated with inflammation in marginal tissues present a difficult clinical situation. Many times, lesions are misdiagnosed and confused with caries and internal resorptions. As a result inappropriate treatment is often initiated. Internal resorption is a relatively rare resorption of dentin which starts in the pulpal cavity either in the pulpal chamber or in the root canal and destroys surrounding dental hard tissues. Cervical resorption is a clinical term used to describe a relatively uncommon and aggressive form of external tooth resorption which may occur in any tooth in the permanent dentition. This paper is an attempt to summarize the knowledge on root resorption from the point of view of clinical relevance and to present a revised terminological system that corresponds to our present understanding of the resorptive processes in teeth.
