The article discusses the Jewish custom of chanting the Scripture as a liturgical tradition that has theological implication. It cites the Jewish trop system that contains symbols that provide the musical equivalent of punctuation marks. It claims that the tradition of chanting the Scripture was inherited by the Catholic Church from Judaism. It presents the third edition of the "Roman Missal," which contains formulas for chanting the Scripture readings. |
