Abstrakt: The article discusses the Académie française from 1789 to 1793, focusing especially on the impact to society members of August 8, 1793 legislation enacted during the French Revolution that abolished all royal literary societies and academies. Some of the topics considered include the public rhetoric and pamphlets produced by Academy member and revolutionary politician Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau which helped end public support of the Academy, the political fortunes of author Sébastien Mercier, the arrest and release of literary critic Jean-François de La Harpe, and the arrest and execution of chemist Antoine Lavoisier.
