Abstrakt: The article presents a case study of forged artworks by painter Giuseppe Guerra which were accepted as authentic ancient works by self-described experts during the 18th century. It explores the relationships between antiquarianism, art connoisseurship, and historiography during this period. According to the author, changes in taste which hoped to re-create ancient works with authentic technologies and materials also brought changes to historical method.
