Abstrakt: In this article the author discusses that the understanding of transnational standards require the analysis of multiple rules and political system of the given geographical area. The author presents a framework to understand the complex rules and focuses on two areas namely community rights as in sustainable forestry standards and freedom of association as observed in fair labor standards in Indonesia. Also analyzed is the relationship between the public and the private sector.
