Heavy metals and metal derived substances are a major class of environmental toxins is. The ability of some microorganisms to interact with different Cr forms makes them attractive in the context of environmental biotechnology. The filamentous yeast Trichosporon cutaneum strain R57 was cultivated in batch mode on a liquid medium in the presence of various concentrations of Cr6+ from 0 to 1.5 mM. The uptake and accumulation of Cr6+ ions by Tr. cutaneum cells dependence on the concentration of Cr6+ ions and the influence of the added amount of yeast biomass were studied. The sorption process reached its maximum after the first two hours of cultivation. The maximum rate of chromium ions removal was found in the medium with addition of 1.5 mM K2Cr2O7, where 25.57 % removal of chromium ions was achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
