Abstrakt: The social and political condition of second generation migrants ('G2') in Italy provides a telling vignette of the vexed - and according to some, failed - implementation of Italy's multicultural practices and policies. This article examines the inherent contradictions in multicultural practices and attitudes, and the collusive relationship between the media and Italian political parties in the formation of those practices. This article juxtaposes an analysis of contradictory social attitudes with the writings of Igiaba Scego (La mia casa è dove sono, 2010), and Randa Ghazy (Oggi forse non ammazzo nessuno, 2007), second generation migrant writers in Italy who seek to expose the myths and misconceptions that surround the uneasy, problematic inclusion of migrants and their children into host cultures.
