Abstrakt: The article discusses changes in the focus of scholarship on the history of religious tolerance in the Netherlands. The author describes a shift of scholarly attention from government institutions to daily practices exemplified by case studies. To examine this development of the historiography of Dutch tolerance, the author considers the region of Zeeland. Among other topics addressed are an alleged neglect of the role of church organizations, why the author contends these organizations played a key role, and specific examples of power structures in the Netherlands during the early 18th century.
