Suicide is a major mental health and public health problem worldwide. Schools/communities must respond. Using a comprehensive prevention-intervention-postvention model, this article isolates some key issues and controversies in the field today. Perspectives on the issues are presented by suicide preventionists from the United States and Canada, as well as to broaden these views, by preventionists from Australia, Japan, and Slovenia. The group concludes that there are various issues facing suicide (and trauma) prevention in schools, with the United States and Canada at the forefront, with most other countries only beginning these endeavors.
