The article presents the author's experience of conducting a classroom study of butterflies, for second graders, as a part of science unit on insects. It states that a reading teacher's main role is to help students become aware of the reading comprehensive abilities and needs. It mentions that the author wanted the children to become metacognitive, and become more knowledgeable and aware of their own thinking. It presents that the book "Reading with Meaning: Teaching Comprehension in the Primary Grades," by Debbie Miller, gave practical advice in simple language and techniques, a teacher can implement immediately. |
