Abstrakt: The article offers the author's insights regarding the change in the property relations in the rural communities of states located in the Intermountain West such as Idaho, Colorado, and Nevada. The author provides empirical and theoretical discussion on several factors associated with the change in the landscape of private and public lands in the region including the cultural impact brought by new residents, the rise of new land-use ideologies, and the use and protection of natural amenities. He also relates the resource protective measures enacted by the region's local governments, which serve as experimental laboratories that provide advantages not given by other contexts. He claims that population growth is an ultimate contributor to the change in land-use regimes of a community.
