Abstrakt: The article discusses a proposal that the selection for genomic match played a role in the evolution of eukaryotes including a critical role in fitness, fertility and age-related disease and argues that free-radical signalling is central to selection for genomic match. It indicates the necessity of mitochondrial genes for the existence of cells with large complex genomes. It suggests that proactive mitochondrial biogenesis can solve some of the problems related to ageing.
