The study cohort consists of 459 subjects over 60 years of age. Intraocular pressure and degrees of exfoliation, lens changes, and pigment were recorded and their interrelationships investigated. A raised intraocular pressure was found to be associated with exfoliation, as also was increased pigmentation and the development of lens changes. An original observation is that the exfoliated males had a significantly higher IOP than their female counterparts. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
