Abstrakt: The author explores why the size and level of artistic music audiences in America is below to that in Europe. He states that at the time of social changes in the 19th century, European audiences already had solid exposure to such music, while the New World settlers still focused on their survival, with the arts not being a priority. The author observes that while institutions and the people in Europe regard the arts as vital, it is a financial success that is supremely important in America.
