The present paper studies the sectional speed of the 14 elite Chinese and foreign 100-meter athletes in light of factor analysis and cluster analysis under the multivariate statistics. The analysis on the factor scores in each section of athletes display that in the 100-meter race the optimal performance of Chinese athletes lies in the 20-30 meters section and 70 - 80 meters section, while the optimal performance of foreign athletes lies in the 20-30 meters section, 40 - 50 meters section, 50-60 meters section, and 80-90 meters section. According to the cluster analysis, elite athletes with Bailey and Lewis as the representatives, their ability to accelerate and maintain the speed is in line with technological features of modern 100-meter races.
