Chapter 2 of the book "The Musical Comedy Films of Gregorii Aleksandrov: Laughing Matters" is presented. It analyzes the satirical treatment of circus life in Aleksandrov's musical comedy film "Circus" and the abrogation of the elements of melodrama through irony. It explores the use of western-style spectacle to show the moral superiority and modernity of Soviet culture, the reintroduction of classic aesthetic forms to Soviet cinema, and the incorporation of Stalinist ideology and nationalism. |
