The paper is focused on the adaptation of the School Success Profile (SSP) questionnaire, designed and validated in the USA, to the Romanian context. The Romanian research team assumed that school success in Romania is influenced by similar social-contextual factors as it is in the United States. The paper shortly presents the SSP instrument and compares the results obtained on nationally representative samples in the USA and in Romania. In both contexts, each social environment dimension (school, peers, neighbourhood and family) had a significant effect both on school attitudes and behaviour, and on personal beliefs and well being. Data revealed significant associations between demographic variables (gender, ethnicity, school level, income) and respondents' school performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
