Abstrakt: The article discusses a study on screening histories of women with invasive cervical cancer (ICC) diagnoses in 2000 who had low-grade findings in Papnicolaou (Pap) smears in the past. The study examined 252 Pap smears from laboratory of origin and then reexamined by experienced cytopathologists and cytotechnicians. Results of the study showed the 35 of 47 ICC cases were squamous cell carcinoma and 10 were adenocarcinoma implying a risk of high-grade lesion development in low-grade Pap smears.
