The article offers an overview of the prospects for democracy in Hong Kong, China. It provides information about the provisions of the Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, Section 301 of the U.S.-Hong Kong Policy Act and continuation by the 111th U.S. Congress of past congressional interest in the quest for Hong Kong's democracy. It considers the stance of China on the democratization of Hong Kong. It cites the motions passed by the Legislative Council in June 2010 and its implications on the move toward universal suffrage. |
