Abstrakt: The article discusses the role played by Indigenous Justice Agreements (IJAs) in the improvement of legal and social status of Indigenous people in Australia. These IJAs were negotiated between the government and peak Indigenous bodies in New South Wales (NSW), Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia (WA). The recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody (RCADIC) have influenced the development of indigenous-focused criminal justice strategic policy.
