Abstrakt: The effect of compositional change on the chemical ordering and self-diffusion of Fe in FePt alloy multilayer system was investigated using neutron reflectivity. [57Fe100-xPtx/Fe100-xPtx]10 multilayers have been prepared with x = 51, 55 and 60 using ion beam sputtering. Structural and magnetic measurements show that the rate of L10 transformation is faster in Fe49Pt51 (ML1) film as compared to other two films. Diffusion measurements in the temperature range in which fcc-to-fct phase transformation takes place, show that the diffusion length is also significantly higher in ML1 film, which makes the L10 phase transformation kinetics to proceed at a faster rate.
