Abstrakt: | The article explains the experiences of U.S. General Oliver Otis Howard as a cadet and teacher at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York. A list of of men from the USMA class of 1854 is provided as well. The author describes Howard's homesickness, his opinions on USMA food, and thoughts on required chapel attendance. Howard's antislavery beliefs are also examined. The general taught mathematics at the Academy. |
