Abstrakt:	A literary criticism is presented of the book "If I Have Four Apples," by Josephine Lawrence. The author reflects on its portrayal of the social struggles of a lower middle-class U.S. family in the early 1930s. Emphasis is given to the economic aspects of individual responsibility in pursuit of the American Dream. Other topics include labor unions, home ownership, and the disparity between social classes.
