Abstrakt: The article discusses the Second Jacobite rebellion of 1745-1746 and examines how the painting "Bonnie Prince Charlie Entering the Ballroom at Holyroadhouse" by John Pettie has played a role in the British collective memory of Charles Edward Stuart's actions in the uprising. It chronicles the events of the defeat of Stuart and the Jacobites by the British army at the Battle of Culloden, Scotland on April 16, 1746 and analyzes how the representation of Stuart in the painting by Pettie from 1891 differs from the portrait "Charles Edward Stuart" by Louis-Gabriel Blanchet which was completed in 1739.
