The article discusses genetic syndromes which convey a high risk for breast, ovarian and related cancers. These include Lynch syndrome, Li Fraumeni syndrome, Cowden syndrome, Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer syndrome, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and Neurofibromatosis-I. Details related to the indications for hereditary cancer risk assessment; the BRCA1/2 mutation testing and counseling process; and the medical, psychological, and social implications of genetic testing, are provided. |
