Abstrakt: The article considers the history of the Indianapolis 500 automobile race from 1950-1959. A series of fatal racing accidents in that period are considered, particularly the 1955 death of racing driver Bill Vuvkovich, who had won the race in 1953-54. The introduction of the Offenhauser automobile motor into racing automobiles and its subsequent dominance of the event are examined. A list of drivers who won the race from 1950-1959 and various race statistics from that period are offered.
