Abstrakt: | The article discusses the giving of synthetic fabrics a soft hand through structural development by cloth shrinking during the pretreatment of textured fabrics. It is suggested that a three-phase treatment is necessary for an optimal bulking effect at economic shrinkage involving washing, steaming and heat-setting. Various methods of shrinkage and the procedures by which specific bulk developments were achieved are compared. It is shown that the economic shrinkage with less than ten percent square size reduction results in a bulking effect that is comparable with that of the maximal shrinkage. The uniformity of the bulking effect over the total fabric resulting in a special soft hand is also discussed. |
