Abstrakt:	The article discusses the treatment of substance abuse and dependence among criminal offenders to lower the risk of recidivism. It examines the relationship between criminal behavior and substance use and abuse. It analyzes the phases of treatment like case identification, detoxification and assessment. The four types of offenders are also cited, including the alcohol abusers, the drug abusers and the cognitively impaired offenders.
