Abstrakt: Sleep apnea means "cessation of breath." It is characterized by repetitive episodes of upper airway obstruction that occur during sleep, usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. Middle-aged obese men are at particular risk but the disorder is also present in women and young children. Dentistry can play an important role in the identification and possible treatment of patients with this syndrome. It can be treated using surgery, continuous positive airway pressure and oral appliances therapy. This article reviews some of the basic aspects of this sleep-related disorder, its diagnosis and treatment modalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
