Abstrakt: The article describes approaches used by textile producers in disperse dye design. Accordingly, the dye designer needs to have a continued information flow on changing market requirements to improve competitiveness of textile producers. Achieving high wet fastness in heavy red shades reportedly poses a problem to the dyer. The lack of cost effectiveness has led BASF to develop new molecular species that will provide very high levels of wash fastness on polyester and polyester/cellulose blends. Dyestuff manufacturers in Europe have developed high wet fast navy and black disperse dyes in which C.I. Disperse Blue 165.1 is a component. A healthy future of disperse dyes is expected with the envisaged long term growth in the use of polyester and its suitability for a wide range of outlets.
