The article investigates the effectiveness of a novel technique to control migration of small soluble dye particles using borax and PolyVinyl Alcohol (PVA). Migration happens when fabric is immersed into pad liquor and is dried before the dye. The capillary system of the fabric swells as the fabric is impregnated with dye liquor. Problems on migration occur in pad dyeing, which involves pad application of dye, intermediate dyeing, fixation of the dye and rinsing of unfixed dye. Findings showed that borax and PVA reduced the amount of migration and that the polymer gel-structure restricts the evaporation of water from the surface of the fabric. |
