Abstrakt: The author discusses the results of her study on the feasibility of using color change in predicting the strength loss of fabrics following exposure to instrumental weathering. Color change (delta E) was higher while warp breaking strength fell in fabrics more exposed to UVA-340 lamps used to simulate outdoor sunlight. Lighter colored fabrics demonstrated higher color change toward yellow (delta b) than toward red or green (delta a). Two white fabrics that showed color changes had lower delta E values at 1.00 to 1.50 than other fabrics. The white fabrics also demonstrated negative delta L values or becoming darker and positive delta b values.
