The article ponders on the success of Hercules Powder Co. in the chemical industry in the U.S. as of June 1961. It states that the average net profit margin of the industry may have decline but the net profit margin of Hercules increased. Between 1949 and 1953, the company's sales performance increased by 47 percent but its earnings increased by six percent only. In order to address such issue, Hercules president Albert E. Forster decided to collaborate with the oil and gas industry, manufacturing such organics as pentaerythritol, methanol, and phenol. |
