The article describes the case of a 29-year-old pregnant woman with type 1 diabetes, diagnosed when she was aged 3, who presented as an emergency with a painful swollen leg. A diagnosis of bullous erysipelas was given due to blister development on her leg and the growth of Staphylococcus aureus on the wound swab. Treatment with intravenous (IV) antibiotics and oral steroids was started. The importance of recognizing the subtle differences in the presentation of cellulitis and bullous erysipelas is stressed as effective treatment. |
