Abstrakt: A literary criticism of two Chilean detective novels, "¿Quién mató a Cristián Kustermann?" by Roberto Ampuero and "Nuestra Señora de la Soledad" by Marcela Serrano, is presented. It describes the emergence of the popular genre for detective fiction in Chile during the 1990's. It explores the neopolicial model which persisted in the Chilean crime fiction during this period. An overview of the story plots is presented.
