Abstrakt: The article discusses a study of police perceptions of female criminality in Florida in the 1970s. Such perception is described as integral to determining the degree to which female criminal involvement has increased. Results show that 86% of officers believe the 16-25 age group has the highest arrest rates and 80% of them claim African Americans have the highest arrest rates. The seriousness of the crime reportedly influenced the approach of the police to female offenders. A trend toward less lenient treatment of the female offender by the police is said to be reflected in the call of respondents for a more egalitarian standard of justice.
