Literacy Strategies in Mathematics Instruction: A Look at New York State Classrooms.

Abstrakt: The article discusses the results of a survey entitled "Literacy Strategies in K-12 Mathematics Instruction" conducted among 185 New York mathematics teachers who averaged 11.04 years in teaching experience. Professional development, information in content area literacy courses, textbooks and the Internet were mentioned as the primary sources of literacy strategy. The article also identifies Know-Want to Know-Learned (KWL), journal writing, guided writing procedure and graphic organizers as favored literacy strategies among New York math teachers.
