This article presents a simulation model that can be used to generate a two-dimensional surface profile which is statistically similar to the actual measured profile in both directions of asperities, amplitudes, and mean line of the profile. The model uses the Ra, AMS, and RMSS values to regenerate the actual surface profile. The generated segments represent samples from the population of profiles which could have been produced under the same machining conditions of the specimen. So, the study of the relation between profiles of surfaces in contact can be made simpler and the variability of results can be evaluated by considering several samples of simulated profiles. Qualitative and quantitative comparison of the parameters and characteristics of simulation with experimental profiles did not detect any significant difference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
