A descriptive correlational design was used to determine the relationship between family support and adherence to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HI V (PMTCT ) programme among a random sample of 80 pregnant women aged 18-35 years attending an antenatal clinic at Kadoma City Health Clinics in Zimbabwe. Data were collected through structured interviews, analyzed, and presented using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages and tables. Pearson's correlation matrix and regression analysis were used to determine the relationship. The results showed that perceived family support has a positive effect (P<0.01) on adherence of pregnant HI V-positive women to the PMTCT programme. The findings showed a moderate positive correlation (r=0.510) at a significance level of 0.01. The effect of the independent variable, perceived family support (R²=0.260), explained 26% of the variance in adherence. Therefore, it is important to involve husbands and significant others in PMTCT activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
