Chapter 8 of the book "Value Inquiry Book Series: Bioethics and Social Reality" is presented. The chapter focuses on the claim that informed consent, when regarded as a bioethical ideal, needs to deal with empirical reality. Several key components of informed consent are discussed which include competence, free decision and information provision and understanding. It also delves into empirical evidence with implications for the goal of informed consent, one of which is the general comprehension of a patient to important data. |
