Abstrakt: The article discusses the nonwage issues between bargainers for the United Mine Workers (UMW) and the industry which affect the chances for avoiding a strike in the Eastern coal fields in the U.S. in 1958. The March 15 deadline set for the coal pact is jeopardized by the slow negotiating process, increasing the risk that misunderstandings could talks to break down.
