The article discusses various financial scandals involving Indian politicians as of January 2011. According to the public exchequer, about 4 trillion rupees were stolen from government funds in 2010, most of which came from real estate proceeds. Realtors claim that 60% to 70% of transactions on property in Indian cities take place in cash, which makes monitoring corruption and malfeasance difficult to track. Several politicians, including Ashok Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra, was sacked in 2010 for his part in the Adarsh scandal. |
