Abstrakt: The purpose of this work is to determine the speciation (oxidation state and molecular structure) of uranium sorbed onto surfaces of silica, alumina, and montmorillonite, in order to investigate the modes of uranium sorption on these minerals. Characterization of actinide sorption onto silicates, aluminates, and aluminosilicates such as montmorillonite is vital for the prediction of the environmental impact and risk assessment of actinide migration from nuclear waste storage sites, underground test sites, and mining sites. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
