An essay on lynching noose as a historical and dramaturgical prop in African American plays is presented. It notes that in the late 1930s when mob lynching are widespread, a stir of lynching dramas appeared in response to anti-lynching legislation, including the lynching plays of Georgia Douglas she submitted to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). It also evaluates Adrienne Kennedy's play "Funnyhouse of a Negro," which depicts lynching on the black community. |
