Occupational exposure to fibrous dust has been studied during the manufacture and use of a wide range of man-made mineral fibres and the results of atmospheric dust sampling are presented. Fibrous materials encountered in the survey included Continuous Filament Glass Fibre, Insulation Wools (Glass Fibre and Mineral Wool), Refractory Fibres and Glass Micro-Fibres. Parallel sampling techniques were used to obtain airborne dust levels in terms of both the gravimetric concentration of total particulate dust and the concentration and size distribution of the fibrous fraction as determined by optical microscopy.
