Abstrakt: The article discusses a study which examined the use of renal ultrasonography (RUS) in the evaluation of acute kidney injury (AKI). The group observed adult Yale-New Haven Hospital inpatients totaling 997 from January 2005 to May 2009. Risk strata for hydronephrosis (HN) and HN requiring intervention (HNRI) were created. The researchers found that in inpatients with AKI, specific factors can identify patients unlikely to have hydronephrosis HN or HNRI on RUS. Factors associated with HN include a history of HN and recurrent urinary tract infections.
