Abstrakt: | In conjunction with the electrophysiological evidence of excitation and inhibition at synapses morphological characteristics of synapses was described In the cerebellar cortex of the cat it was proved that S-type synapse which contained spheroid vesicles of average diameter of 500 Å was excitatory in function, while F-type synapse which contained flattened vesicles with major and minor axis of 400 Å and 230 Å respectively was identified as inhibitory in function. It was proved that quite the same type of correlation between structure and function of synapses exists in the neuromuscular system of crustacea. S-type synapse which contained spheroid vesicles of average diameter of 500 A˚ was excitatory, while F-type synapse which contained flattened vesicles of smaller size than the S-type vesicles was inhibitory in function.
