Alpha cells (A cells) of the pancreatic islets of the domestic fowl were observed under the electron microscope. The A cells can be encountered frequently in the alpha islets (A islets) of the splenic pancrees. They are variously shaped and are characterized by specific alpha secretory granules (A granules) of a generally high electron density. Cell organells, as generally accepted, are seen. The granule formation is performed intensively in the Golgi area. A granules seem to be released through the mechanism termed as emiocytosis or termed as eruptocrine. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
