Abstrakt: The article explores the use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) or noninvasive ventilation (NIV) for acute respiratory failure, with support by evidence from clinical trials and meta-analyses. It presents the impact of respiratory protocols on the use of NPPV in a hospital clinic, and in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients in the postoperative setting. It notes that NPPV is a life-saving technology used in several clinical settings.
